History
This station was part of 12 stations built by San Brickardo Fire Department when it was created, and was built to a new and larger spec. As the SBFD (now the SBFR) was a larger department with more money it was built using modern building techniques, which many were originally opposed to, but has aged very well. It was one of the first stations built for the new non-volunteer fire department, and was originally staffed by 9 full-time firefighters, but that was upped to 12 in 1953 when the nearby San Brickardo Water Rescue organization merged with SBFD. At that time the station was modified (both interior and exterior) to hold 12 people, and parking spots for the Dive Rescue trucks were added to the rear.

Engine 6Engine 6 is a 2017 Seagrave Marauder II. It is a part of the San Brickardo Dive Team (as indicated by the patch on its bumper).
Engine 6 is a standard SBFR Spec engine, with extra features to help with calls it deals with the most, which in this case are Dive-Rescue and MVA related. This includes an extension to go on the end of its Hard Suction hose (seen on the roof) that helps it draw water right from any river or lakes and a Rescue Board/Lifesaving Ring that means firefighters can go straight into the water and preform Water Rescues. Engine 6 is second due Engine to Elm Ave, and first do to Santa Monica Blvd. |
Rescue 6Rescue 6 is a 2005 Peirce Arrow XT. It is one of the older rigs in the SBFR but its still working well. Members from Rescue 6 cross-staff Dive Support 1, but the actual rig Rescue 6 doesn't go to Dive Rescue Calls.
Rescue 6 is a mostly standard SBFR Rescue Spec Cab, but the body is custom as the Rescue isn't a walk in and the compartments go extra deep into the body of the truck. Rescue 6s most popular call (Like Engine 6) is MVAs (Multi-Vehicle-Accidents) so it carries specialist tools to deal with them like extra powerful struts and airbags. It also carries minimalistic Hazmat equipment (as it is the primary Hazmat Rig for the West side of Battalion 2). Rescue 6 and Rescue 9 are the only 2 Rescue rigs that cover Battalion 2. The Rescues are onscene at all Heavy Rescue, Trench Rescue and Hazmat calls in the Battalion, and at least one of them is onscene at any structure fire. |
Medic 6Medic 6 is one of the last Medic units based at a fire station instead of a specialized Medic Station. Medic 6 is based off a 2017 Ford F250 cab and a custom rear box.
The rear box (like any other SBFR Ambulance) has a custom extra large compartment behind the cab which holds the Firefighter/Paramedic crews bunker gear and SCBAs as well as basic search and rescue tools which allows this Medic unit to act as its own company during a structure fire. Medic 6 is first due Transport Medic unit to most of South-West Battalion 2 and often backs up Engine 5 on medical calls in the Elm Ave area. |
Dive Rescue 6SBFR Dive Rescue 6 is a 2017 Freightliner MT-55 and makes up part 1 of 2 stations dedicated to Dive Rescue at SBFR. It is a walk in apparatus with enough space for 2 divers and 1 RIT diver to prep.
The truck also has a shower for Decon, a RIT boat on the roof and another on a rear trailer. Dive Rescue 6 is first due to the entire Santa Monica Boardwalk, and the large pond in San Sequoia Park. During the summer it is an extremely busy piece of apparatus often responding to up to 4 rescue calls a day. |
