History
Originally Santa Monica Volunteer FD Station 5, and ran 2 horse drawn apparatus, but these were phased out for self sufficient engine run apparatus around 1907. Station 5 was actually the second station in the SBFR to receive self sufficient apparatus (when it joined the SBFD in 1891), which were named Engine 5 and Rescue 5. It still remained a volunteer station, but it was overloaded with calls. It got to the point (in 1920s) where response times were upward of 10 minutes, and the station was eventually reconfigured into a non-volunteer station (in 1930). At this time SBFR Station 6 was built, and the Rescue was assigned to there, making Station 5 the first SBFR Station to have a single apparatus run from it. It is still based out of that 1930s building, although the Engine has gone thru some changes since then.

More updated photos of Engine 5 coming soon.Credit for this engine: The Seagrave headlights design is based on one by Sven and Michael P, the Pump panel is based on one by Joshua B (I'm guessing on these credits...) and Michael P.

Engine 5Engine 5 is a 2017 Seagrave Marauder II. It is one of the oldest and busiest Engines in the SBFR.
Engine 5 is a standard SBFR Spec engine, with extra features to help in an urban firefighting environment, like a pump panel based monitor to help fight fires at high heights, a short attic ladder, pike pole, and 2 lengths of high-suction hose. Engine 5 is first due Engine to Elm Ave, and second due to Santa Monica Blvd/Little Italy meaning it turns up at most if not all large calls in that area. Motto: "No Truck- No Problem"
Above is Engine 5s patch. The motto "No Truck- No Problem" was chosen as Engine 5 is stationed alone, without any other "Trucks" and is still very proficient on the fireground. The cat featured is dubbed "Diesel", and was a stray cat the station crew looked after for many years, until it died in 2018.
